Mahama, NDC bigwigs in court

Former president John Mahama and other bigwigs in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) such as Nana Ato Dadzie, party general secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and Joyce Bawa Mogtari are at the Accra High Court this morning to witness proceedings in the case involving the party’s chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is in court over statements he allegedly made in a leaked audio tape.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is being represented Abraham Amaliba, Tony Lithur, Dominic Ayine and Edudzi Tamakloe as Counsels.

Ofosu Ampofo is facing charges of Conspiracy to cause harm and assault against a public officer.

The NDC chairman said his approach to the election was going to be different and said there were plans for “covert and overt operations.”

The NDC’s first response to the leaks was to say its offices were bugged.

The National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi said: “we know the government is engaged in illegal espionage activities in this country; employing state resources and the national security apparatus to spy on political opponents.

The government denies this claim.
