Increase in Tariffs by the energy sector is a bold step-Energy Expert

Energy expert, Mr. Kojo Poku has urged Ghanaians not to politicize the tariff increase in electricity and water.

According to him, the rate at which we consume electricity in the country is very high therefore if care is not taken companies in charge of electricity will collapse which will lead to power outages. Political parties should stop blaming each other for the debt but they should rather put in place measures to defray the debt.

Speaking to Osikani Frimpong Manso today on Kingdom Breakfast, he made it known that debt which the Nana Addo led government inherited from 2017 is still in existence. In the interview, he made it known that both the previous and current governments are to be blamed.

He also said, the government should put measures in place to reduce the debt which has accumulated to 2.4 billion dollars. Ghanaians should not get convinced because it is our own tax paying money that will be used to settle the debt. The government will use other means to take money from Ghanaians.

According to him, the new electricity tariff the will take effect from the 1st of July 2019 is very necessary in other increase the revenue mobilization of Power Distribution System (PDS) which took over the Electricity of Ghana recently. He revealed that it is a bold step taken by the government.
