The Founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mr. Percival Kofi Akpaloo, wants former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur to be prosecuted in connection with recent banking scandal.
The banks are uniBank Ghana Ltd, the UT Bank, the Capital Bank, the Royal Bank, the Construction Bank, the Beige Bank, and the Heritage Bank.
He asked the government to arrest and prosecute all persons including former Governor of Bank, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur and other officials found complicit in the collapse and the consolidation of seven indigenous banks by the Bank of Ghana.
“Government must prosecute the body of the late Amissah-Arthur for the mismanagement of the economy and all persons involved must be prosecuted instantly, “Kofi Akpaloo told Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7.
He said those Directors of the banks and officials of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) if found culpable must be made to cough up the money and put before the law courts.
According to him, the staff and all those whose actions and inactions had cast a slur on the management of the financial system in the country must be made to face the full vigorous of the laws.
Mr. Akpaloo commended the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison for the bold decision to stop the rot that could jeopardize the entire economy.
He was worried that some people could waste national resources when it could be used to bring relief to the poor and develop the country.
Meanwhile, the BoG has given a strong assurance that it will not shield any director or manager who played a role in the collapse of the defunct banks.
